Mims Septic Cleaning Vs. Septic Pumping: Are They The Same Thing?

If you’ve done any at-home research on septic services, you’ve probably noticed that the terms “septic pumping” and “septic cleaning” come up often. It seems that the two terms are used interchangeably, but they aren’t actually the same thing. Allow your friendly team at Acme Environmental Services to help you understand the differences before you make your appointment with us.

What Is Septic Pumping?

Septic pumping removes the liquids, solids, and sludge (partially solid waste that is produced during the treatment process) from your septic tank. Pumping is likely the term that you will hear most often when researching septic services. This task is performed by a pump truck and other equipment such as high-capacity vacuums and sewer jets.

When a septic tank is pumped, all of the contents are removed and transported to a location where they may be safely disposed of. It is recommended that pumping be performed at least once every 3-5 years. This keeps your septic tank free of clogs and working at its best.

What Is Septic Cleaning?

Septic cleaning is something that is done to totally reset your tank. You can think of it like a “septic tank detox.” When a cleaning is performed, the liquids, solids, and sludge are removed, along with the water from the tank. Any compacted sludge is also removed during a septic cleaning.

After all the contents of the tank are removed, a professional will be able to check each component of your septic system to make sure that it is in working order. This step identifies any faulty or damaged parts in your septic system and helps you to avoid a much more expensive repair or replacement in the future.

Are Both Septic Pumping And Septic Cleaning Necessary? Mims Septic Cleaning

While these two terms do technically refer to different services, it is important to know the difference. It is well worth your time to have both services performed on your septic system. Most septic companies who want to provide service that is worth your time and money will perform both of these tasks as part of your service. While you won’t usually have to specify between the two when setting up your appointment, it is important to know as many details as you can to make sure you are receiving the services your septic system needs.

When scheduling your Mims septic cleaning (or pumping) with Acme, our team members will help you break down each step involved in one of our septic service appointments.

Can I Ever Perform A Septic Cleaning Or Pumping On My System Alone?

Unfortunately for your inner handy-man, you should always hire a professional to perform work on your septic system. This is because the job requires the use of heavy equipment and machinery that is not always easy to obtain and operate.

Because septic systems deal with raw sewage, environmental and health risks can result if any waste is released into the environment. Attempting to perform a septic cleaning on your own also creates the risk of accidentally damaging your septic system. Even if you read up on methods of cleaning your own septic system, if something went wrong, you could end up with some very costly repairs. This task could also result in physical injury, which just isn’t worth the gamble. We always recommend contacting one of our friendly and efficient team members at Acme for this task.
